How to overcome depression
Are you depressed? I am with you! 😌
Want to overcome your depression? Here's my point-

This man is of 50 years of age and he has recently completed a triathlon, which is considered one of the world's toughest races. It includes a 3.8-km swim, a 180.2-km cycle ride, and 42.2-km run raced in that order without a break which the participants are required to complete within 16 hours to win the title of 'Ironman'. This time it had 2,000 participants and he completed it in 15 hours and 19 minutes. Besides this, he is an actor and has been a supermodel.

And this is what he says-
"Sometimes people tell me that I am really positive. Here is my secret: When you are depressed or half-hearted, the last thing you likely want to do is to get up and go for a run."
But did you know after only a few minutes of running, your brain will start to secrete hormones that naturally improve your mood!! In fact, simply running can more rapidly treat any kind of dullness and depression in a sustainable and healthy way than any pill.
It will keep you healthy, positive, and happy. What else do you need?
Some more tips:-
- Tell Yourself Why Are You Depressed- Whenever I am in depression, I took my phone, open the camera, and make a video of my self where I am described why I am depressed, and watched the video 4 to 5 times, it helps to reduce my stress completely.
2. Happiness is the biggest enemy of the Depression- Do what makes you happy. I am a very bad dancer and a very good bathroom singer, whenever I am upset, depressed, feeling alone, or bored I start dancing awkwardly, which makes me tired and sleepy, and good sleep easily helps you to fight with your depression.
3. Good Food- Eat Chocolates, Icecream, Pizza what you love, because it makes your mood better. I eat Chocolates and Icecream whenever I am in Depression.
4. Exercise- I am too lazy, but some crunches, Pushabs, and up-downs make me strong to fight with depression mentally as well as physically. Not Daily, but do definitely
But do you even know What is Depression?
Maybe you are not in depression. In our life, all of us feel sad and depressed for some time, it doesn't mean we have depression.
Some technical terms will come so read slowly. 🤗
Doctors give the basic signs of having depression which includes sadness, worthlessness, hopelessness, change in appetite, suicidal thoughts, sleep problems, etc. if we have 5 or more of these symptoms for at least 2 weeks, then doctors diagnose us with depression. The exact cause of depression is unknown. But studies suggested that people who have depression may have a smaller hippocampus. Where it present? An area of the brain that regulates emotions. Moreover, genetics also play role. Studies have shown that variation in the serotonin transporter gene makes us more prone to depression. Environmental factors such as coping with the death of our beloved one, traumatic events, etc, can also cause depression.
Do you know what is postpartum depression?
Baby blues can be normal but post-partum depression can be a thing of worry. Post-partum depression (PPD) falls under the classification of clinical depression that appears during the first few months after childbirth. It has been seen that it can affect both the parents, however, mothers are more prone to it (1 in 8 mothers suffer from it).
Common symptoms of PPD include: fatigue, persistent sadness, feelings of hopelessness or helplessness, difficulty in concentrating or remembering or making decisions, restlessness, insomnia, loss of interest in routine activities, sudden weight gain or weight loss, irritability, frequent headaches or digestive problems, chronic pain, suicidal thoughts or tendencies, inability to connect to the baby or wanting to indulge in regular activities with him/her and more
Talking about coping skills for PPD – here’s how you can overcome it with the help of self-care management strategies and support of loved ones:
- Discuss with your partner about how you would like to distribute responsibilities amongst the two of you, especially for the first few weeks. This way, expectations can stay real and non-pressurizing.
- Avoid suffering in silence. It is best to ask for and accept, help from friends or family members who have had an experience of parenthood.
- Make it a practice to never compare the upbringing of your child with anyone else including yourselves. There is mostly no right or wrong in parenting.
- Keep “me time” in the picture even if it means a quick walk for 10-15 mins, a short nap, a movie, or more. A break from your routine is a must no matter how guilt-provoking it may seem.
- Take care of your sleeping, eating, and fitness routines. It is important to ensure that you are sound mentally as well as physically.
- Do not expect to experience the above changes overnight. You will have to slowly integrate them into your daily routine so that you can enjoy them.
While experiencing baby blues or even PPD has become common these days, it is best to opt for professional guidance if the symptoms begin to take a toll on one’s health. This way, parents can take good care of themselves as well as the child. Also, one should be open to both therapy and medication if the same is prescribed by an accredited mental health practitioner. Remember, there is no rainbow without rain. 🙂
